Issues to Pay Attention to During High-Speed Punch Press Operation

1. Hazards inherent in the equipment structure. A considerable number of stamping machines use rigid clutches. These use a cam mechanism to engage or disengage the clutch. Once engaged, the machine must complete one cycle before stopping. If the operator cannot withdraw their hand from the die in time during this cycle, a hand injury will inevitably occur.

2. Uncontrolled operation. During operation, the equipment is frequently subjected to intense impact and vibration, causing some components to deform, wear, or even break. This may result in uncontrolled equipment operation, creating hazards such as unintended continuous strokes or accidents.

3. Switch malfunction. The equipment's switch control system may malfunction due to human or external factors.

4. Die-related hazards. The die performs the primary function of forming the workpiece and is the point where the energy of the entire system is concentrated and released. If the die is improperly designed or defective, and the safety of operators during use has not been taken into consideration, the operator may need to place their hands directly or repeatedly into the die to complete the operation, thereby increasing the possibility of injury. A defective die may cause an accident under normal operating conditions due to wear, deformation, damage, or other reasons.

During stamping operations, stamping machinery, dies, and operating methods have a significant impact on safety. Stamping accidents may occur at any hazardous point of the stamping equipment, but the vast majority occur within the die stroke area. The main area of injury is the operator's hands. When the operator's hand is between the die strokes, the upper die may descend and cause a hand-crushing accident. Such accidents are caused by equipment defects and human errors. Relevant personnel must identify the hazards associated with stamping operations.
